Lanetti Tools: visitor country from a local IP database (no third-party lookups)
Imported from GitHub issue El-SaMa/oma#205 by @El-SaMa.
Operator approved recording the visitor's country in tool usage stats.
Do: look up country in the collector (apps/web/app/api/insights/collect) from a local database (e.g. DB-IP Lite country mmdb, CC-BY, refreshed monthly by a cron), store only the 2-letter code (column or props.country), drop the IP right after. Never call RIPE/ipinfo per visitor (sends personal data to a third party, slow).
Then: add a Countries card to /admin/tools/usage, the usage action of oma.admin_lanetti_tools, and the same for lanetti.fi Funnel if useful. Update the LaneDNS privacy policy (country from IP, IP not stored).
Context (2026-10-14): lanedns.lanetti.fi (Lanetti Tools, standalone PHP site on nilek, repo El-SaMa/lanedns site/) was revamped and OMA became its control plane: usage in /admin/tools/usage, settings in /admin/tools/settings, staff MCP oma.admin_lanetti_tools, config pull GET /api/lanetti-tools/config (link token in LaneDNS storage/oma-link.php). Events: site_events site lanedns.lanetti.fi, tool_run sanitized by services/core-api/src/lanetti-tools/usage-events.ts. Read handbook hosting/netspeed section "OMA is the control plane" and .cursor/rules/lanedns-standalone.mdc (deploy recipe: keep public_html group www-data) before touching LaneDNS.
